Why Form 4L

Print the whole part

The usual fix for a big resin part is to split it, print the pieces, and glue them back together. The Form 4L skips that step.

Build envelope, drawn to scale

Front view, width x height. The Form 4L is also 196mm deep against the Form 4's 125mm.

4.6x

The Form 4 build volume

<6 hrs

Full-volume prints

4h 54m

Lacrosse head · 21h 57m on Form 3L

4.6x

Full-size parts in one piece

353 x 196 x 350mm holds housings, helmet shells, and full-size fixtures without splitting the model, so there's no glue line through the middle of your prototype. Or fill the plate with small parts and run a whole batch at once.

Under 6 hrs

Big prints before dinner

Formlabs benchmarks: a lacrosse head in 4h 54m on the Form 4L versus 21h 57m on the Form 3L. A golf club head in 5h 50m versus 17h 17m. Prints that fill the entire build volume finish in under 6 hours.

2 cartridges

Twice the resin on board

The 4L draws from two Resin Cartridges at once, so a big print has twice the resin to work with before anyone swaps a cartridge. The Resin Pump in the Complete and Premium packages feeds from 5 L bottles instead.

46 µm pixels

Large format, same detail

Same Low Force Display print engine as the Form 4, with an even finer 46 µm pixel and ±0.15% XY tolerance on 1–30mm features. Big doesn't have to mean rough.

Speed at scale

Big parts in hours, not days

Formlabs ran the same large parts on the Form 4L, a leading FDM printer, a benchmark FDM printer, and the Form 3L. The Radio Flyer seat didn't even fit on the leading FDM machine. On the 4L it took 2h 37m.

Who's printing on Form 4L

It pays for itself fast

Large prototypes are the expensive ones to outsource and the slow ones to print on older machines. That's where the 4L earns its money back.

UbeCube

Paid for itself in two runs

UbeCube was paying $3,000–4,000 and waiting about a month for each batch of outsourced large prototypes. Two runs of parts on the Form 4L covered the printer.

FAQ

Form 4L questions

Does the Form 4L come with resin?

No. None of the packages include resin. The 4L uses two cartridges at a time, so order at least two in step 2.

Form 4L or Form 4?

Form 4L if your parts don't fit in 200 x 125 x 210mm, or you want to batch a lot of small parts in one run. Form 4 if they do fit: it's faster per part and costs less to get into. Same resins and the same PreForm on both.

How big is it? Will it fit on my bench?

The printer is 66.4 x 52.8 x 79.4 cm and weighs 58.5 kg (129 lb). Plan for a sturdy bench or cart, 88.9 x 116.9 cm of clearance to open it up, and two people to lift it.

Do I need the Form Wash L V2 and Form Cure L V2?

For parts this size, we'd say yes. Hand-rinsing a 300mm part is slow and messy, and engineering resins only reach their datasheet properties after a heated post-cure. The Complete package includes Form Wash L V2 and Form Cure L V2.

Can I use third-party resin?

Yes, with the Open Material Mode license for the Form 4L ($4,999). It's included in the Premium package.

Can I try PreForm before I buy?

Yes. PreForm is free, no license or sign-up. Load your part, select Form 4L, and you'll see if it fits, how long it takes, and how much resin it uses.
