Einstar Rockit & Einstar 2

Two pocket-size, wireless laser scanners with Wi-Fi built in, full color and the same EXStar Hub software. Rockit is our pick: crossed blue lasers that scan fast and track without markers on most parts. Einstar 2 is the budget way in, with 17 parallel lasers for small, detailed parts.

Why Einstar

A laser scanner that fits in your pocket.

Most scanners at this price make you pick: infrared that's quick but soft on detail, or a laser that needs a cable and markers on everything. Both Einstars do laser and infrared, wirelessly. Rockit's crossed lasers go further and track off the part's own shape, so most scans start without a sticker.

Marker-free laser

Skip the markers on most parts.

Rockit's crossed lasers track off the part's own features, so a bracket, a seat or an intake goes from the shelf to scanning in a minute. Flat, featureless parts still want markers, and 3mm and 6mm markers come in the box. Einstar recommends 64GB of RAM for smooth marker-free laser scanning.

Wi-Fi built in · swappable battery

No cable back to the laptop.

The Wi-Fi module is inside the scanner, so there's no hub or dongle to set up. Walk around a car, climb inside it or take the scanner outside. The battery swaps out and runs up to 3 hours, and if the Wi-Fi gets crowded you can plug in with USB-C.

Blue laser

Fast on big surfaces. Sharp on small ones.

Rockit's 38 crossed blue lasers cover big areas fast, and its 7 parallel lines pick up edges, fillets and small features. Einstar 2's 17 parallel lines are built for fine detail on small parts. Blue laser handles black plastic and machined metal without spray on both.

Einstar 2: 17 parallel

Black & shiny parts, no spray

Up to 90 fps

Infrared · eye-safe

Scan a person in about a minute.

Infrared is eye-safe and covers a lot of area at once, so a full-body scan takes about 60 seconds. It's also the mode for big objects like car bodies and furniture, with up to 1.4m of working distance and 4.8 million points a second on both scanners.

Full color

Real color, not a paint job

A texture camera captures true color for cosplay, art and AR/VR models: 5MP on Rockit, 2.3MP on Einstar 2.

Up to 110,000 lux

Works in the sun

Laser mode scans in bright daylight up to 110,000 lux, and IR up to 70,000. Scan the car in the driveway.

Same body

Small enough to carry

Both are 130 × 61 × 37mm and about 425g with the battery. The case holds everything else.

In the box, not on a bill

Scan, mesh and export with EXStar Hub.

Both scanners come with EXStar Hub, Einstar's scanning software, at no charge. Scan, clean up, mesh and export STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF or ASC for your slicer or your CAD.

Included · EXStar Hub

Auto plane detection

Which one?

Rockit vs. Einstar 2

Rockit is the one we recommend to makers. Einstar 2 saves you $620, but it has no crossed lasers, so it's slower and its laser mode needs markers. If you want the computer and screen built into the scanner, step up to the Rigil or Rigil Lite.

Einstar scanners are hobby grade. Einstar doesn't publish an accuracy spec, so we don't quote one. Need a measured number on a report? Look at the Rigil (0.04mm) or a FreeScan (0.02mm).

On Windows, EXStar Hub needs an NVIDIA RTX 3060 Laptop GPU or better with 6GB of VRAM. On a Mac, Apple Silicon does the job instead. Get 64GB of RAM for smooth marker-free laser scanning on the Rockit.

Both scanners stream to your computer

Neither Einstar processes on the scanner. They send data over Wi-Fi to a Windows laptop with an NVIDIA RTX 3060 or better, or to an Apple Silicon Mac, and the mesh builds there in real time.

Magnetic scanning pyramids + a can of AESUB Blue, on us

Every scanner we ship includes a set of our magnetic scanning pyramids (stick markers on them and set them around the part for tracking, no stickers on the part itself) and a can of AESUB Blue, the spray that disappears on its own. It's our little bundle, and you only get it here.

Quick answers

Rockit or Einstar 2?

Get the Rockit if you can. Its 19+19 crossed lasers cover big areas faster and track without markers on most parts. The Einstar 2 has 17 parallel lines, which are good on small detailed parts, but it's slower and its laser mode needs markers. It saves you $620 if you only scan small things.

How accurate are they?

Einstar doesn't publish an accuracy number for either scanner, so we don't either. They're hobby-grade scanners: great for 3D printing, cosplay, art and fitting parts around existing shapes. If you need a measured number on an inspection report, look at the Rigil (0.04mm) or a FreeScan (0.02mm).

Do I need markers?

On the Rockit, usually not: its laser tracks off the part's own features. Einstar 2's laser mode tracks with markers. On both, IR mode tracks off shape and texture, so people and big objects usually need none. 3mm and 6mm markers come in the box.

What computer do I need?

Windows 11 with an Intel i7-13700H or better, an NVIDIA RTX 3060 Laptop GPU or better and at least 32GB of RAM (64GB recommended). Or an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS Tahoe 26.2. The full list is in the spec table.

Will it scan black or shiny parts?

Blue laser handles dark plastic and machined metal well. For chrome, mirror finishes or clear plastic, a light coat of AESUB spray does the job, and it disappears on its own.

Can I scan outdoors?

Yes. Laser mode works up to 110,000 lux and IR up to 70,000 lux, so you can scan a car in the driveway in daylight.

Can I turn a scan into a CAD model?

Both give you a mesh (STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF, ASC). For editable CAD, add EXModel or Geomagic Design X. See software options.

Do you demo Einstar scanners?

Not on Einstar models. Watch our side-by-side video above, or call us with your part and we'll tell you straight which one will handle it. Live demos start at the Rigil.

Can I finance it?

Yes. Click Finance it next to Add to cart for a 60-second application, or email contact@visionminer.com.
