Pick your Alpha Resins

Alpha Resins load themselves from a 1 L cartridge, so there's no pouring. They cost less than half what Form 4 general-purpose resin does, they're low-odor, and printed parts are certified for long-term skin contact under ISO 10993.

Why Form Studio 1

Formlabs, at a hobby price

It isn't a stripped-down Form 4. On a few specs it goes further than the Form 4, and the parts that make Formlabs printers just work all came along.

To learn to print

Formlabs is still finishing reliability testing; early data puts the Studio 1 on par with the Form 4.

35 µm

Finer pixels than the Form 4

35 µm pixels with anti-aliasing (the Form 4 is 50 µm) and a taller 235mm build. Low peel forces and light-touch supports keep surfaces clean.

No pouring

Resin loads itself

A 1 L cartridge feeds the tank automatically and the printer heats the resin up to 45ºC, so prints start right away and nothing spills on the bench.

GREENGUARD Gold

Reasonable in a spare room

Run Alpha Resins with the VOC Extractor and the Studio 1 is UL GREENGUARD Gold certified for low chemical emissions. Formlabs says it's the first resin printer to earn it.

Open

Third-party resin included

Open Material Mode comes with the printer at no charge (it's a paid license on the Form 4). Run any standard 405 nm resin in the Resin Tank Pro; you'll pour those by hand.

Studio 1 vs. consumer resin printers

Form Studio 1 vs. Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 16K & Anycubic P1

These are the printers people cross-shop against the Studio 1. On paper they win a spec or two. The difference is everything around the print: loading resin, dialing in settings, getting parts off the plate, and having someone to call.

Elegoo

Lower price, more hands-on

The Saturn 4 Ultra 16K costs $200 less and lists smaller pixels. You'll pour resin by hand, dial in settings for each new resin, and scrape parts off the plate. The Studio 1 handles those for you, with a year of warranty and people to call.

Anycubic

A bit more room, more upkeep

The P1's build is about 10% larger, and there's a dual-vat kit. Resin still goes in by hand and parts still come off with a scraper. The Studio 1 is UL GREENGUARD Gold certified with Alpha Resins and the VOC Extractor, so it's at home in a spare room or a classroom.

Competitor specs and prices as compiled on Formlabs' comparison pages, October 2026. Consumer printer prices move often, so check Elegoo's and Anycubic's own stores for today's price. Comparison images from Formlabs.

FAQ

Form Studio 1 questions

When will it ship?

Demand is high, and new orders are backordered through February 2027. Order now to hold your place in line, and call 833-774-6863 for the latest date.

Does it come with resin?

No. Founders Edition orders (through November 30) get the first bottle of Alpha Resin for $29. Add a cartridge or two in step 2.

Can I use Form 4 resins?

Nine materials are validated for the Studio 1: the six Alpha Resins, Tough 1500 V2, Flexible 80A V2, and True Cast. Most other Formlabs resins run with starting settings, but you may need to fine-tune them, and with no resin mixer, results can differ from the data sheet. Third-party 405 nm resins run in Open Material Mode with the Resin Tank Pro.

What's the Resin Tank Pro for?

The standard tank's film is engineered for Alpha Resins. Tough 1500 V2 and third-party resins need the Tank Pro, which handles a much wider range of resin chemistry.

Studio 1 or Form 4?

Studio 1 if you're getting into resin printing, printing models and minis, or running a small shop on a budget. Form 4 if you need the full engineering and biocompatible catalog or print Tough parts all day: Tough 1500 prints slower on the Studio 1's Tank Pro than it does on the Form 4.

Do I still need gloves?

Yes. It's still a resin printer. Wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses every single time.
